Bizarre Vacation Phenomena, &c: The Midmorning Nap.
I’m not much of a sleeper, as my regular reader knows. The problem is usually with getting to sleep — bridging the gap between consciousness and unconsciousness is really difficult —, but lately I’ve developed problems staying asleep. I don’t drop off until about two or three in the morning, and then I rocket awake at 6.30 or 7.00 feeling bright and chipper.
Brightness & chipperness then last for a good couple of hours — usually long enough for me to eat breakfast and pour a great deal of coffee down my throat. Around 9.00, though, I begin to drag, at least if I don’t have work or school to go to, which I haven’t, lately. With no incentive to do otherwise, I’ve been tumbling onto the couch every day around this time to go back to sleep, which is a weird and disruptive experience. It’s funny how I don’t have the same trouble dropping off in midmorning as I do late at night, but there you have it.
It gets in the way. Usually I’m trying to write, or get ready to go running, when the sleepiness seizes hold. Hrm … maybe something to that. Is this midmorning nap a way to avoid self-imposed responsibilities?
Well, that was boring. Here’s a picture of my cat to make up for it.
